Why I Joined OpsRamp

Data Powers the Enterprise

I’ve been working in enterprise IT for 15 years, beginning in enterprise data management at a large government organization, and later moving into enterprise architecture (EA) roles.  Over the years, aside from any specific technology innovation such as cloud, microservices or AI, I’ve seen the impact of data in everything we do. Banner ads, promotional emails, and pop-ups can be overwhelming, yet it’s fascinating to think about the algorithms used to recommend products based on topics someone recently purchased or researched.

Data-centricity is also becoming core to IT departments. They’re using data to improve everything from the availability of the network to changes to the environment and services to prevent future outages. This focus on data and the maturity of data management platforms are also helping to align IT Operations, traditionally a hidden function, with line-of-business teams.

IT is finally getting a seat at the table to better understand every part of the business. In the past, IT was better known for keeping the lights on, the department that doesn’t move at the speed of business, or the organization where everyone says that it will be too difficult. Now, as we’re learning the importance of data and beginning to understand that context is everything, we’re seeing the image of IT improving and LOB leaders working with them to accomplish things with data that they never thought were possible.

Modern IT Operations is All About the Data

This is why I joined OpsRamp. My career began with an extreme focus on manual data collection of data stores, assets, and databases. A lack of automated collection and the inability to see linkages between these items and the purpose for them made it difficult to build the relationships needed to serve the business. Once I transitioned into EA roles, I saw EA and Ops teams starting to come together but still struggling as we couldn’t easily integrate the Ops data with EA data. Not only did the tools we have then make it difficult to relate logical data with discovered data, but the two organizations could rarely agree on how the data related to building context.

OpsRamp is a modern platform that can discover, monitor and provide the business context needed for resolution and decision support. For the first time, Ops, IT and EA professionals can truly work together to accurately advise CXOs on how to transform the business and stay agile.

While the technology and vision of the OpsRamp platform were enough to draw me in, it's going to be the people and culture that keep me here. From everyone's willingness to help each other, the regular collaboration sessions between the development and solution consulting teams, the company coming together for an hour on Fridays to share ideas and tales from the field and the ability to be a differentiator in a new market, OpsRamp is a place I can comfortably call home.
